IN LOVING MEMORY
A Bedford County girl who won the hearts of the region during her brave bout with cancer lost that battle Friday January 29th.
Heather Miller of Osterberg was 11 years old when she succumbed to Ewing's Sarcoma, a rare form of cancer.
Last May Heather Miller spent one of the best days of her life with the Pittsburgh Steelers. During the Make A Wish trip she kicked off practice, made some new acquaintances, and revealed her fondest dream to play football with Steeler Hines Ward.
Heather went through major surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. But that smile almost never left her face.
Kids at Heather's school, Chestnut Ridge, gave her a frog to symbolize Fully Rely On God. And it became one of her trademarks. Her determination never seemed to waver, and it inspired all those who knew her, or knew of her.
Her school district and rival Bedford came together during their yearly football showdown game to raise money to help heather and her family. Even the town of Bedford decked out in green to show support.
Heather's mother Wendy says her daughter lived a fuller life than most during the past 15 months since her diagnosis living, smiling, and doing what she wanted to do.
